Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania has spearheaded a bipartisan initiative to introduce the annual Bipartisan Public Schools Week Resolution. Joined by Representatives Mark Pocan, Glenn “GT” Thompson, and Suzanne Bonamici, this resolution underscores Congress's commitment to enhancing public education and acknowledges the significant role public schools play in shaping America's future. The observance, scheduled from February 24-28, 2025, aims to honor the efforts of students, educators, and advocates who contribute to academic excellence.

"A strong public education system is vital to our nation’s prosperity," stated Rep. Fitzpatrick. He emphasized his dedication to ensuring that schools receive necessary resources and support. "Public Schools Week is a time to celebrate the educators, parents, and advocates who make these institutions pillars of learning and opportunity."

Rep. Pocan highlighted his personal connection as a public school graduate: "I’m proud to recognize the 9 out of every 10 students in America that attend a public school." He stressed the importance of collaboration in strengthening public education for all children.

Rep. Thompson noted his experience on the House Committee on Education & Workforce and as a former local school board member: "Every child deserves access to a high-quality education." He reiterated the need for efforts to bolster the public school system.

Rep. Bonamici shared her perspective as an involved public school parent: "A quality system of public education is critical to students, families, the economy, and democracy." She expressed her continued advocacy for policies that provide students with opportunities for success.

During Public Schools Week, various national education groups will highlight the significance of public schools in shaping America's future. These schools are accessible to every child regardless of their background or needs.

The resolution is supported by numerous organizations including The School Superintendents Association (AASA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), National Education Association (NEA), National PTA, among others.
