Rep. Joe Hogan from Bucks County has issued a warning to residents in the 142nd District about a phone scam that employs Artificial Intelligence to imitate the voices of Pennsylvania's elected officials. The scammers are reportedly using these AI-generated voice recordings to solicit money under the guise of charitable donations.
"Scammers have been getting more creative with their tactics in recent years," said Hogan. "Their newest tactic now includes using AI to replicate voices and use it to scam you out of your hard-earned money. This has already happened in another area of the state, by fabricating the voice of one of my colleagues. I will never ask any of my constituents to donate money to a charity over the phone. If you get a call that sounds like me asking for money, it is a scam."
The fraudulent activity was first identified in Tioga County and has been reported to law enforcement agencies, including the attorney general’s office. Hogan urges anyone who receives such calls to immediately notify authorities and provides his office contact number, 215-752-6750, for further inquiries.
