Reps. Kristin Marcell, Joe Hogan, and Shelby Labs have announced a grant for the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) to improve its facilities. The funding, amounting to $197,613, comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Environmental Repairs Grant Program. This initiative is designed to assist public schools in addressing environmental hazards within their buildings.

Kristin Marcell expressed her satisfaction with MBIT receiving this funding, stating: “As a former school board member and member of MBIT’s Executive Council, I am pleased MBIT is receiving funding for these facility updates.” She emphasized her ongoing commitment to advocating for healthy learning environments across Pennsylvania.

Joe Hogan highlighted the importance of safe schools for effective learning: “As I've said before students can't learn if they aren't in safe and healthy schools,” he remarked. He believes the grant will significantly contribute towards creating such environments.

Shelby Labs also underscored the significance of this financial support: “This important funding is crucial in ensuring our students and teachers can continue to learn and teach in a healthy and safe environment," she said.

The grants provided through this program can be used by Pennsylvania school districts, career and technical education centers (CTCs), and charter schools to address various environmental issues. These include improving water infrastructure, eliminating contamination, installing treatment devices to reduce lead levels, remediating mold or asbestos contamination, among other projects aimed at mitigating environmental hazards in educational facilities.
