More than $200,000 in unclaimed property was returned to residents of Bucks County during recent events. These gatherings featured Treasurer Stacy Garrity, Senator Frank Farry, and Representatives Joe Hogan, Kristin Marcell, and K.C. Tomlinson.

Senator Farry organized two State Services Day events in Warwick Township and Middletown Township. Attendees were able to search for unclaimed property onsite, resulting in the discovery of over $200,000 owed to local residents.

Treasurer Garrity expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: “Meeting Pennsylvanians in their own backyard is great for so many reasons. Not only do we get to talk about what’s most important in their lives, but I also get to share great resources, like how to search for unclaimed property."

Senator Farry added his support for the program: “It was an honor having Treasurer Garrity here in the 6th Senate district sharing the great programs Treasury has to offer.”

Representative Hogan emphasized the impact of bringing these services directly to constituents: “I’m proud that we were able to bring these important services directly to our constituents in Bucks County.”

Representative Marcell highlighted the importance of returning unclaimed property: “Unclaimed property represents more than just forgotten or lost belongings and returning it to the rightful owners is critical for the state to maintain accountability and responsibility.”

Representative Tomlinson noted both the attendance and success of the event: “Not only was this well attended, but also successful given the fact that we were able to find $200,000 in unclaimed property for our constituents.”

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, insurance policies, and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. Businesses are required by state law to report such assets after three years of dormancy.

The Treasury's outreach team provided additional information on programs such as PA 529 College and Career Savings Program and PA ABLE at these events. The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and SEPTA also participated.

During fiscal year 2022-23 ending June 30, Treasury returned a record-breaking $273.7 million with an average claim value of $1,600.
