Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick and Greg Landsman introduced the bipartisan Protect our Letter Carriers Act (H.R. 7629) in response to the rise of violent crimes against postal workers. The legislation aims to protect letter carriers and enhance public safety by addressing issues such as outdated collection boxes and enhancing prosecution of crimes against postal employees.

"The rise in robberies and violent assaults being committed against letter carriers in recent years is deeply concerning and Congress must act to ensure their safety," said Congressman Fitzpatrick. "I am proud to be leading this bipartisan effort which provides necessary resources to protect our dedicated letter carriers while making sure we are punishing criminals to the fullest extent of the law."

Congressman Landsman echoed the sentiment, stating, "Our letter carriers are such a big part of our lives, and we have to keep them safe. This bipartisan effort will do just that."

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) expressed appreciation for the introduction of the legislation, with NALC President Brian Renfroe emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of postal workers. Renfroe urged the House to pass the bill to protect letter carriers who play a crucial role in delivering essential goods to Americans.

Similarly, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association (NRLCA) endorsed the bipartisan legislation, noting the increasing threats faced by rural carriers. NRLCA President Don Maston highlighted the importance of modernizing security measures and reviewing sentencing guidelines to safeguard postal employees from harm.
