WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1) alongside Representatives Mark Pocan (WI-2), Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15), and Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) have introduced a resolution to honor Public Schools Week 2024, with the support of 83 colleagues. Public Schools Week, running from February 26 to March 1, is a time dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of public schools and recognizing the contributions of students, parents, educators, and advocates.

"Public schools are the backbone of the American education system," stated Congressman Fitzpatrick, acknowledging the essential role of public education. He expressed gratitude to the teachers, parents, and education staff, emphasizing their tireless efforts to support the future leaders of the nation.

Representative Pocan, a product of public education, emphasized the importance of strengthening public schools to ensure every child receives a high-quality educational experience. He highlighted the collective effort required to support public education, stating, "Communities are stronger and schools are better when we all work together."

Congressman Thompson, drawing on his experience as a former school board member and parent of public school graduates, underscored the crucial role schools play in building strong communities. He stressed the need to enhance the public school system to better serve future generations, stating, "Every child deserves access to a high-quality education."

Congresswoman Bonamici, with her background as a public school parent and volunteer, emphasized the significance of a quality public education system. She commended the dedication of teachers and school staff in supporting students and families, pledging to advocate for policies and resources essential for student success.

Public Schools Week serves as a platform for national education groups to highlight the positive impact of public schools in shaping the nation's future. These institutions, open to all children regardless of background or needs, are vital in strengthening the country. By supporting public school systems, the nation ensures a brighter future for generations to come.
