WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, Congressman Mike Quigley, Congressman Andy Harris, and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, the bipartisan Co-Chairs of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, have introduced H.Res. 1014 to mark two years since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The resolution commemorates the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people and acknowledges the devastating impact of Russia’s aggression. Congressman Fitzpatrick stated, “It has been two years since the despot Vladimir Putin launched his unprovoked, ruthless war against Ukraine. Countless innocent Ukrainians have been slaughtered, as well as many fallen soldiers who died in defense of their sovereign homeland. Their sacrifice cannot be in vain. The United States and our allies have an obligation to ensure Ukraine prevails over Putin. Democracies must continue to stand up and stand together so that freedom prevails.”

Congressman Quigley emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, saying, “In observance of the invasion, I ask my colleagues to choose freedom over tyranny. I ask them to stand on the right side of history and pass the additional aid Ukraine needs to turn the tide. We must do this for Ukraine and for the fate of the free world for generations to come.” Congressman Harris echoed these sentiments, stating, “Tomorrow marks two years since Vladimir Putin began the brutal and illegal invasion of Ukraine. In that time, the Ukrainian people have demonstrated extraordinary courage and resolve in the face of evil and have bravely faced down the onslaught of unprovoked Russian aggression on their lives and in their country.”

Congresswoman Kaptur highlighted the ongoing struggle of Ukraine against Russian aggression, saying, “Two years ago tomorrow, Vladimir Putin drove his tanks right at the heart of Ukraine, in an illegal, brutal, and unprovoked war of aggression. For two years, the world has witnessed a sovereign nation—the poorest in Europe—fight for its precious Liberty against the 3rd largest military in the world.” She emphasized the need for the United States and its allies to stand with Ukraine during this challenging time, stating, “Our nation and our allies have a responsibility to stand with Ukraine in her time of great need.”

The bipartisan resolution has garnered support from 35 co-sponsors within the Congressional Ukraine Caucus. The Co-Chairs of the caucus are calling on their colleagues to pass the resolution as a show of solidarity with Ukraine and a commitment to upholding freedom and democracy in the face of aggression.
