WASHINGTON, DC – In case you missed it, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) joined a group of members on a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) urging him to cancel the Senate’s upcoming recess to resolve the debt-ceiling crisis.

“We urge the Senate to remain in session from May 19th to June 1st if the debt ceiling is not raised by then,” the letter reads. “During this critical period, the Senate is still scheduled to be out of session next week, a critical time leading up to June 1st, which we believe is irresponsible. Senate lawmakers cannot go on vacation while the financial security of our nation and essential benefits on which Americans rely hang in the balance. Americans overwhelmingly support compromise, and this schedule demonstrates a lack of willingness to come to the table and negotiate. The Senate has yet to pass a bill that would raise the debt ceiling and curb inflation-causing government spending. Making good on our commitment to seniors, veterans, working families, and not spending beyond our means, should not be a partisan issue. We urge you and your colleagues to come to the table and stay until an agreement is reached rather than fleeing D.C. when our country is waiting for your action.
