On the seventh anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, along with Congressmen Jared Moskowitz and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, introduced the Measures for Safer School Districts (MSD) Act. This bipartisan initiative aims to enhance school safety by modernizing infrastructure, improving emergency response systems, and ensuring clear communication between schools, law enforcement, and families.

The MSD Act proposes a comprehensive framework focusing on three main areas: standardized emergency response protocols, immediate parental notification during crises, and reinforced school infrastructure. It also includes $100 million in annual funding through the Homeland Security Grant Program to support these measures.

Congressman Fitzpatrick emphasized the importance of this legislation: "Our children should walk into school each day feeling safe, not scared. The bipartisan Measures for Safer School Districts (MSD) Act is a commitment to protecting our children with real, tangible action—strengthening security, enhancing emergency response, and ensuring parents are informed when it matters most."

The act has received endorsements from school safety advocates and organizations representing families affected by school shootings. Tony Montalto, President of Stand with Parkland, praised the bill's focus on prevention and national standards: "Our heartfelt thanks to Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick and Jared Moskowitz for co-sponsoring the Measures for Safer School Districts Act (MSD Act)."

Fitzpatrick has been active in promoting school safety reforms in Congress. He has previously introduced other related bills such as the Secure & Fortify Entrances and Rooms in Schools Act and the Strengthening Our Schools Act.
