Washington, DC - Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1) has been appointed as Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s (HPSCI) Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Subcommittee. This position involves overseeing all operations of the CIA, including international covert operations.
Fitzpatrick, who is a former FBI Special Agent and Federal Prosecutor, brings significant national security and intelligence experience to his new role. He also serves as an active member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
The CIA Subcommittee oversees the CIA's programs, policies, budget, and operations. It ensures accountability in human intelligence collection and dissemination.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson praised Fitzpatrick's appointment: "Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick’s leadership, integrity, and expertise in law enforcement make him perfectly suited to lead the House Intel’s CIA subcommittee."
HPSCI Chairman Rick Crawford expressed confidence in Fitzpatrick: "The American people are lucky to have someone like Brian Fitzpatrick working for them on the Intelligence Committee."
On his appointment, Fitzpatrick stated: “It is an honor to be appointed Chairman of the House Intelligence CIA Subcommittee."
Fitzpatrick has been part of HPSCI since 2021. Previously, he led a mission that secured the release of two American detainees from Nigeria. His prior experience includes 14 years with the FBI where he worked on corruption and counterterrorism issues.
