Resolution proposes national day for CTE and RHI awareness

Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick and Mark DeSaulnier have introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate January 30th as National CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) and RHI (Repeated Head Impacts) Awareness Day. This initiative seeks to highlight the dangers of repeated head trauma, honor those affected, and support research, education, and prevention efforts.

"Repeated head trauma can devastate lives in ways that are both profound and preventable," said Congressman Fitzpatrick. He emphasized the impact on athletes, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence, noting the importance of awareness in addressing this issue.

Congressman DeSaulnier added his perspective as a former football player: "I know the dangers associated with repeated head trauma and concussions." He expressed pride in partnering with Fitzpatrick to raise public awareness.

Karen Kinzle from Doylestown, President of the Patrick Risha CTE Awareness Foundation, stressed the urgency for action. "We are grateful for Brian Fitzpatrick’s willingness to understand this critical issue," she said. She shared her personal connection to the cause after losing a family member due to repetitive head impacts leading to CTE.

The resolution aims to recognize January 30th as National CTE and RHI Awareness Day. It honors those dealing with these challenges and acknowledges researchers working on brain trauma prevention. The resolution encourages federal agencies like CDC and NIH to enhance public education on prevention strategies.

This effort marks an important step in addressing long-term effects of repeated head injuries, championed by Fitzpatrick and DeSaulnier across political lines for American health priorities.
