Today, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick announced the Senate's approval of a bill to rename the Washington Crossing Post Office in honor of Susan Barnhart. This bipartisan legislation, co-sponsored by Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, passed the House of Representatives and now awaits the President's signature.
The companion legislation was introduced by Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman. "Last July, our community was shaken to the core when a devastating flash flood claimed the lives of seven innocent individuals, including the remarkable Susan Barnhart," stated Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick. He praised Susan as "a true exemplar of public service and compassion."
Susan Barnhart, an employee at the Washington Crossing Post Office and resident of Titusville, New Jersey, lost her life during catastrophic flooding in Bucks County on July 15th, 2023. Her sister Lynda Barnhart said, "This is not only a memorial of Susan’s death but a fond remembrance of her boundless passion and energy for life." She highlighted Susan's dedication to helping others with "a warm smile" that left a lasting impression.
The House had unanimously passed this legislation earlier in June. The bill will soon become law following presidential approval.
