Senator Frank Farry has been appointed to seven standing Senate committees for the 2023-24 legislative session. The assignments include chairing the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee and serving as vice chair of the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee. He will also participate in the Appropriations, Communications and Technology, Community, Economic and Recreational Development, Health and Human Services, and Law and Justice committees.
Farry was sworn into office on January 3rd to represent Pennsylvania's 6th Senate District in Bucks County after a lengthy tenure in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
“I am eager to begin the important work of vetting bills and determining if they will benefit the Commonwealth and its residents,” Farry stated. “The strong list of committees I received will provide the opportunity to consider many different legislative topics.”
Each committee plays a specific role in shaping legislation within its domain. The Urban Affairs and Housing Committee focuses on housing issues such as community revitalization, vacant properties, public housing, land banks, planned communities, and oversees the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.
The Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee is tasked with handling legislation related to consumer affairs, regulated public utility services, professional licensing boards, state boards, authorities, and commissions.
The Appropriations Committee examines all legislation for fiscal impact while playing a significant role in state budget negotiations. It conducts public hearings with state department leaders to review budget proposals.
The Communications and Technology Committee works on improving high-speed internet access across Pennsylvania while ensuring personal information security within state government systems.
The Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee collaborates with the Department of Community and Economic Development on business growth support through grant and loan programs.
The Health and Human Services Committee addresses legislative priorities affecting public health services including Medical Assistance programs, substance use disorders treatment options, mental health services, behavioral health services, and rural health issues.
Lastly, the Law and Justice Committee deals with matters concerning the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and State Police regulations.
