Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District has announced the allocation of over $3 million in federal funding for rail trail projects. The funds are designated for the September 11th National Memorial Trail, Upper Bucks Rail Trail, and Newtown Rail Trail Extension.

This financial support comes as part of a broader effort to channel federal resources into key local projects under the Fiscal Year 2022 and 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act. "These rail trails are not just pathways; they are essential assets that bring our community together and showcase the natural beauty of PA-1," said Fitzpatrick.

The Upper Bucks Rail Trail Improvement Project will receive $1.77 million to enhance access for hikers, cyclists, runners, and nature enthusiasts while promoting environmental sustainability and boosting local tourism. An additional $1 million is allocated to extend the Newtown Rail Trail along Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s former right-of-way, connecting it with Pennypack Creek Trail.

Bucks County Board of Commissioners Chair Diane Ellis-Marseglia emphasized the importance of these projects: “These trails have become such an important part of Bucks County as they offer a safe and beautiful way for citizens to stay healthy and enjoy our beautiful county."

Moreover, $259,000 is earmarked for signage on the September 11th National Memorial Trail. This initiative aims to improve navigation across its route through Pennsylvania. Jeff McCauley, President of the September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance stated: “This grant will fund critical road signage throughout Pennsylvania."

Fitzpatrick remarked on this trail's significance: “More than just a path, the September 11th National Memorial Trail is a journey of remembrance and resilience that honors the lives lost.”

These investments reflect Fitzpatrick's commitment to improving quality of life in his district while fostering economic growth through enhanced recreational opportunities.
