Langhorne, PA – Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has announced a significant achievement for Warminster Township with the allocation of $1.5 million in Community Project Funding for the Shenandoah Woods Improvement and Revitalization Project. This funding is part of the FY23 Consolidated Appropriations Act and aims to transform an abandoned residential site into a community asset.
Fitzpatrick has been instrumental in directing federal resources to projects benefiting Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District. Through the Community Project Funding Request process for the 118th Congress, he secured over $27.5 million for 14 community projects in Fiscal Year 2024, over $19 million for 13 projects in FY23, and more than $6.6 million for 10 projects in FY22.
The funding will aid efforts to integrate the revitalized area into Warminster Community Park, a 243-acre space featuring walking trails, nature areas, playgrounds, pavilions, picnic spaces, a pond, restrooms, parking facilities, and soccer fields.
Ralph DiGuiseppe, Chairman of the Redevelopment Authority, expressed excitement about receiving the grant: “This funding marks a significant step in our partnership with Warminster Township to transform the formerly blighted and abandoned housing site into a vibrant, sustainable community park.”
Congressman Fitzpatrick highlighted the project's importance: “This project represents a transformative opportunity to breathe new life into an abandoned site and create a dynamic community space that will serve as the heart of Warminster Township for generations to come.”
The Shenandoah Woods site was designated as blighted by local authorities in 2011 due to inadequate planning and economically unviable land use. Acquired from the U.S. Navy in 2021 after its abandonment as a military complex housing units until its closure at Willow Grove Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, plans were approved for demolition in 2012.
Fitzpatrick continues his efforts by securing critical funding for various other community initiatives across Bucks County.
