Rep. K.C. Tomlinson announced on May 13 that she will host a press conference in Harrisburg with several animal welfare organizations to discuss House Resolution 402, which seeks to recognize May 20 as “Rescue Dog Day” in Pennsylvania.

The event aims to highlight the importance of rescue dogs and the work done by shelters and advocacy groups across the state. The press conference is scheduled for Monday, May 20, at 1:15 p.m. in the Pennsylvania State Capitol Main Rotunda.

Joining Tomlinson will be Kristen Tullo, Pennsylvania state director for the Humane Society of the United States; Cathy Malkemes, CEO of Women’s Animal Center; Aspasia Yeager, operations director at the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area; and Denise Klonis, co-founder of PA PitStop. Together, they plan to address House Resolution 402 and its significance for animal welfare efforts in Pennsylvania.

The hearing is expected to be accessible online through RepTomlinson.com and Rep. Tomlinson’s Facebook page, barring any technical difficulties.

Supporters say recognizing Rescue Dog Day would bring attention to adoption efforts and encourage more Pennsylvanians to consider rescuing animals from shelters.
