Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has introduced new legislation to honor the contributions of women known as "Rosies" who played a pivotal role during World War II. The National Rosie the Riveter Day Act, a bipartisan bill, aims to designate March 21st as National Rosie the Riveter Day. This initiative is supported by Representatives John Garamendi, Mark DeSaulnier, Debbie Dingell, Jared Huffman, and Kevin Mullin.

The proposed legislation seeks to commemorate over six million American women who worked in various sectors during the war. These women significantly impacted the workforce and advanced gender equality. Fitzpatrick stated that this act builds on previous efforts, including awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to Rosies.

“The Rosie the Riveter Day Act represents the next chapter in our ongoing effort to fully honor and recognize the historic contributions of these remarkable women," said Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick. He emphasized that designating March 21st ensures their legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Congressman DeSaulnier added his support by highlighting their contribution: “The millions of Rosies... deserve recognition for helping their country win the war and forever changing the role of women in the workforce."

Congresswoman Dingell also expressed her admiration for Rosies' pioneering spirit: “Rosies are the true definition of trailblazers... America will forever be changed for the better thanks to their ‘can do’ spirit.”

The act amends Title 36 of U.S. Code to establish March 21st as National Rosie the Riveter Day, requests an annual presidential proclamation, and encourages observance through educational events and tributes.

Previously, Fitzpatrick's efforts led to passing legislation that awarded Rosies with Congressional Gold Medals. In June, he presented Mae Krier with this medal in Normandy on D-Day's anniversary.
