Today, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick introduced the St. Patrick’s Day Act in Washington, D.C., aiming to designate St. Patrick’s Day as a federal holiday. The proposal seeks to honor the contributions of Irish Americans and highlight the connection between the United States and Ireland.

“St. Patrick’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar—it is a tribute to the perseverance, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of the Irish people," Fitzpatrick stated. He emphasized the significant role Irish immigrants played in shaping America and expressed pride in introducing bipartisan legislation to recognize their impact.

Fitzpatrick has consistently supported Irish-American issues since joining Congress. As a member of the Friends of Ireland Caucus, he has worked on preserving the Good Friday Agreement and advocating for justice in Northern Ireland. His efforts have included opposing the Northern Ireland Amnesty law alongside Irish officials.

In 2024, Fitzpatrick received the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medal from the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), an honor given for extraordinary contributions to the Irish-American cause. Previous recipients include Nobel Peace Prize Laureate John Hume and Cardinal John O’Connor.

Fitzpatrick's advocacy for Irish heritage and U.S.-Ireland relations continues with this latest legislative effort, reinforcing his commitment to honoring Irish legacy at a national level.
