Reps. K.C. Tomlinson and Joe Hogan, both from Bucks County, along with Sen. Frank Farry, announced that their proposed legislation to address illegal street racing has been signed into law by Governor Josh Shapiro. This new measure, known as Act 103 of 2024, aims to enhance safety by imposing stricter penalties on street racing activities.

“This is a crucial piece of legislations. We are seeing more and more of these illegal street racing events in our area,” stated Tomlinson. She emphasized the importance of community safety and noted that this is her fourth crime-related legislative achievement.

Hogan expressed gratitude for collaborating with Tomlinson on this issue, stating, “Act 103 of 2024 will keep our streets and communities safer and is a bipartisan solution to a troubling crime.”

Senator Farry highlighted the dangers associated with illegal street racing: “Illegal street racing has become an incredibly dangerous issue and needs to stop before more people or law enforcement officers are hurt or killed at these events.” He stressed the significance of holding event organizers accountable through the new law's penalties.

The legislation increases fines for violations from $250 up to $2,000 and allows for vehicle confiscation upon repeat offenses. It also introduces new penalties for race organizers, including third-degree felony charges if serious injuries or fatalities occur due to a race.
