Rep. K.C. Tomlinson has announced the passage of her legislation aimed at increasing penalties for street racing in the House. The bill, which was approved with a vote of 177-25, seeks to amend current laws by raising fines from $250 to $2,000 per violation. Additionally, repeat offenders could have their vehicles confiscated to prevent further participation in illegal street races. Event organizers would also face accountability under this proposed law.

"I am thrilled to see House Bill 2266 pass the House," stated Tomlinson. "The safety of my constituents is always my top priority. When I learned that in my district alone we’ve had over 40 incidents in the last year and a half, I knew this was something we needed to address. Adults, children and law enforcement have been hurt or even killed at these events. By increasing the penalties for those convicted of street racing, we will keep both our streets and law enforcement safe."

The bill now moves to the Senate for concurrence.
