Reps. Kristin Marcell, Joe Hogan, Shelby Labs, and Sen. Frank Farry have announced a $1,489,608 grant for Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT). The funding comes from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program and will be used to replace 43 rooftop HVAC units and the building's automation system.
The upgrades aim to enhance safety by integrating the HVAC system with smoke detectors, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide sensors. This project alleviates the financial burden on local taxpayers by covering costs through state funds. "Investing in our educational institutions is vital to ensuring safe and effective learning environments," said Marcell.
Sen. Farry added, "A safe and healthy learning environment is essential to ensuring our students, teachers and schools are successful." Rep. Hogan expressed gratitude that these funds prevent local taxpayers from shouldering the project's entire cost.
Rep. Labs emphasized the importance of investing in student success: “I am proud to support this funding, which will go a long way in protecting the health and safety of our students and teachers.” Dr. Mark Covelle of MBIT highlighted how this investment supports not only their school but also four sending districts: Centennial School District, Central Bucks School District, Council Rock School District, and New Hope-Solebury School District.
Covelle stated that MBIT is experiencing record interest and enrollment levels. "This investment is important in meeting the needs of the school," he said.
