Reps. Kristin Marcell, Joe Hogan, Shelby Labs, and Sen. Frank Farry have announced a $1,489,608 state grant awarded to the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT). The funding comes from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program and will be used to replace 43 rooftop HVAC units and update the building’s automation system.
The project aims to enhance safety by integrating the HVAC system with smoke detectors, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide sensors. Additionally, it alleviates financial pressure on local property taxpayers as the state covers these essential upgrades.
"Investing in our educational institutions is vital to ensuring safe and effective learning environments," said Marcell. "This grant will improve energy efficiency and strengthen the overall safety of the school."
Sen. Farry emphasized the importance of a safe learning environment: "A safe and healthy learning environment is essential to ensuring our students, teachers and schools are successful."
Hogan expressed gratitude for securing funds that ease taxpayer burdens: "These dollars will ensure our students and staff are learning in the best environment possible."
Labs highlighted the significance of continued investment in education: "It is critical we continue to invest in projects that contribute to the success of our students."
Dr. Mark Covelle, MBIT Administrative Director, acknowledged support from legislators: "I am incredibly thankful for the support of Rep. Marcell and Sen. Ferry for this critical infrastructure improvement to MBIT." He noted that MBIT is experiencing record interest and enrollment.
The project not only benefits MBIT but also supports its four sending districts: Centennial School District, Central Bucks School District, Council Rock School District, and New Hope-Solebury School District.
