Reps. Kristin Marcell, Joe Hogan, Shelby Labs, and Sen. Frank Farry have announced a significant state grant awarded to the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT). The $1,489,608 grant comes from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program and will be used to replace 43 rooftop HVAC units and upgrade the building's automation system.
The project aims to enhance safety by integrating the HVAC system with smoke detectors, fire alarms, and carbon monoxide sensors. This improvement ensures that local property taxpayers are not burdened with these costs as the state covers them. "Investing in our educational institutions is vital to ensuring safe and effective learning environments," said Marcell. She emphasized that this grant would improve energy efficiency and strengthen school safety.
Senator Farry expressed his satisfaction in advocating for this funding alongside Rep. Marcell: "A safe and healthy learning environment is essential to ensuring our students, teachers, and schools are successful." Rep. Hogan added that he was thankful his colleagues secured these funds so that local taxpayers wouldn't bear the project's full cost.
Rep. Labs highlighted the importance of investing in projects contributing to student success: "I am proud to support this funding which will go a long way in protecting the health and safety of our students and teachers."
Dr. Mark Covelle, MBIT Administrative Director, expressed gratitude for the support from Rep. Marcell and Sen. Farry: "This project not only helps our school but also supports our four sending districts." He noted that MBIT is experiencing record interest, enrollment, and achievement levels.
