A group of state lawmakers called on April 2 for PECO to withdraw its recent requests for additional electric and natural gas rate increases. The legislators said the proposals would add financial pressure on residents who are already dealing with high utility bills.

The letter was signed by Senator Frank Farry, Representative Shelby Labs, Representative Joe Hogan, Representative Kristin Marcell, and Representative Kathleen Tomlinson. They pointed out that PECO had previously received approval for a 10 percent increase in electric rates and a 12.5 percent increase in natural gas rates in January 2025. Following these hikes, the company reported a net revenue rise of 47.7 percent, totaling $814 million for the year.

Despite these gains, PECO is now seeking another round of increases: an additional 12.5 percent for residential electric customers and an 11.4 percent hike for residential natural gas customers at a combined cost of $429 million.

Farry has served the public through positions in Middletown Township and as a leader within local fire companies according to his official website. He has also worked on laws addressing issues such as penalties for porch piracy and illegal street racing according to his official website.

Farry represents Pennsylvania’s 6th District in Bucks County after winning election to the Senate in 2022 according to his official website. He grew up locally, graduating from Neshaminy High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School of Business and advanced degrees from Rutgers University according to his official website. Farry lives with his wife Kristen and their two children according to his official website.

The request from lawmakers highlights ongoing concerns about rising utility costs and their impact on households across Bucks County.
