State Senator Frank Farry and state Representatives Joe Hogan, Kristin Marcell, K.C. Tomlinson, and Shelby Labs announced on April 16 that PECO will withdraw its request to increase rates for customers after discussions with the company.
The announcement comes after concerns from lawmakers that higher utility costs would place more financial strain on residents already facing high bills. The legislators said they had sent a letter to PECO officials on April 2 urging them to reconsider the proposal.
The lawmakers pointed out that PECO received rate hikes of 10 percent for electric service and 12.5 percent for natural gas in January 2025. Following these increases, the company reported a net revenue increase of nearly 48 percent, totaling $814 million for that year. Despite this revenue growth, PECO was seeking an additional hike of about 12.5 percent for residential electric customers and over 11 percent for natural gas customers at a combined cost of $429 million.
“We understand that an improved and reliable grid is critical to the success of our community, but a rate increase right now is unacceptable,” Farry said. “Increasing electric costs by 12.5% and natural gas costs by 11.4% would negatively impact the families we represent. We are glad that PECO has decided to withdraw its proposal and is putting affordability first.”
Farry has served in public roles including leadership positions in Middletown Township government and local fire companies according to his official website. He has also championed laws related to public safety issues such as penalties for porch piracy and illegal street racing according to his official website. Farry lives in Bucks County with his wife Kristen and their two children according to his official website.
Farry was elected to represent Pennsylvania’s 6th District in Bucks County in the State Senate in 2022 according to his official website. He holds degrees from Neshaminy High School, Wharton School of Business (economics), as well as advanced degrees from Rutgers University in public policy and law according to his official website.
