Rep. Joe Hogan, a Republican from Bucks County, has announced plans to introduce two legislative measures aimed at easing the financial strain of rising energy costs for Pennsylvania residents.
The first proposal would permit those applying for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program to subtract expenses related to utilities—including electricity, water, and natural gas—from their reported income. This adjustment could enable more individuals to qualify for PTRR benefits or receive higher rebate amounts.
The second measure proposes a supplemental rebate within the PTRR program specifically designed to address energy expenses. Under this plan, eligible claimants could receive up to $250 for qualified energy costs incurred during the previous year.
“Energy costs are through the roof, and they are becoming an increasing burden on the hardworking people of Pennsylvania,” said Hogan. “While these proposals aren’t going to solve the underlying issues pushing our energy bills higher, it will provide relief for many in our community and across Pennsylvania.”
Both pieces of legislation are pending official introduction by Rep. Hogan.
