Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate the second Friday in June as National Service and Conservation Corps Day. This initiative continues his efforts to promote national service and support programs that unite communities, develop leaders, and protect public lands.
The resolution is cosponsored by Representatives Chrissy Houlahan, Doris Matsui, and Don Bacon. It builds on Fitzpatrick’s work to strengthen national service programs, including the recent Protect National Service Act.
“I’ve long supported and fought for our national service programs because they deliver real results—strengthening communities, developing leaders, and giving Americans of all backgrounds the chance to step up and make a difference,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick. “By establishing National Service and Conservation Corps Day, we’re reaffirming our commitment and support for the organizations doing this important work every day—and for the core belief that service to others makes our country stronger.”
Rep. Houlahan highlighted the role of national service in bridging political divides and supporting climate change initiatives: “National service brings together Americans across political divides, uplifts communities, and is a terrific return on investment for the federal government,” she said.
Rep. Bacon shared personal reflections on the impact of such programs: “My grandfather was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and it made a positive lifelong impact. So, I’m pleased to support designating the second Friday of June as National Service and Conservation Corps Day.”
Rep. Matsui emphasized the historical significance of national service: “The spirit of service and dedication to our fellow Americans is deeply rooted in our national identity.”
The resolution has also received endorsement from The Corps Network, an association representing over 150 service corps. Mary Ellen Sprenkel, President and CEO of The Corps Network, expressed gratitude towards those involved: “On behalf of the 150 member organizations of The Corps Network, thank you Representatives Houlahan, Fitzpatrick, Matsui, and Bacon for recognizing the importance of national service for our lands and our youth.”
Fitzpatrick’s advocacy for national service continues with this resolution aimed at expanding opportunities and supporting institutions that facilitate these services.
