WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1) commended the Environmental Protection Agency for establishing a national drinking water standard to address PFAS (per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances) chemicals in drinking water. Fitzpatrick, who serves as the Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, expressed his satisfaction with the EPA's announcement.

"As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, I am pleased with today’s announcement from the Environmental Protection Agency finally establishing a national drinking water standard for PFAS chemicals," said Congressman Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick emphasized the importance of regulating these harmful substances in drinking water, particularly in areas like the former Naval Air Warfare Center and Horsham Air Guard Station in his district. He stated, "Since first arriving to Congress, I have called for a standard to restrict the levels of these dangerous 'forever chemicals' in our communities’ drinking water and advocated for long-term health studies to understand the health impacts of PFAS."

The congressman highlighted the significance of the EPA's new rule as a crucial step towards safeguarding public health. "This final rule is another critical step in the right direction in protecting the American people from PFAS exposure and related health complications," Fitzpatrick remarked.

Acknowledging that more work remains to be done, Fitzpatrick expressed his commitment to advocating for further federal investments in research and remediation efforts. He stressed the importance of ensuring that water sources remain clean and safe for future generations, stating, "Our work is far from complete. I look forward to continuing to advocate for federal investments in research and remediation efforts that will ensure that water sources are clean and safe for generations to come."
